LEE COUNTY, Fla.- With Labor Day just around the corner and gas prices on the rise, how will the price at the pump affect holiday travel?

Gas prices in Southwest Florida have gone up about nine cents from last week, and 24 cents from this holiday weekend last year. There are uncertain factors as to why, including Isaac's effect on oil production in the Gulf and the refinery explosion in Venezuela.

Those factors aside, AAA just put out a new projection that says not many travelers have cut back or cancelled their Labor Day plans. Agents are still seeing reservations rolling in for the holiday. People who are hitting the road are cutting back once they get to their destination, while others aren't going at all.

As we head into the Labor Day weekend, all eyes will be on the pump prices. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.82. In Southwest Florida, the average is $3.80 a gallon.
