PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) - Republican congressional candidate Ted Yoho said his upset win over longtime incumbent Cliff Stearns shows that people in north central Florida are tired of career politicians.
    
Yoho spoke at a Wednesday breakfast of Florida delegates gathered outside of Tampa for the Republican National Convention. It marked the Gainesville veterinarian's first appearance at a state party function.
    
In his remarks, Yoho called debt the biggest national security threat. He also called the November election the most important in the country's history.
    
When asked how this year's election could be more important than the 1860 election on the eve of the Civil War, Yoho said voters needed to stop the slide into socialism that has occurred during President Barack Obama's time in office.
