PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit detectives arrested a Port Charlotte couple for child neglect and for multiple drug charges Saturday after deputies were called to their home for a domestic dispute. Phillippe Jules Laurent, 30, and his girlfriend, Amanda Leigh Ray, 23, both of 3383 Harbor Boulevard, were arrested.
CCSO responded to their home at 1:19 p.m. and while investigating, noticed a marijuana plant in a pot, plus burnt marijuana cigarettes in plain view in the living room. The couple then signed a consent form to search the house. Their five year old son was also in the home. Deputies contacted CCSO Narcotics detectives to respond and begin the search.
Detectives searched the child’s room and in a television stand drawer, mixed in with the child’s candy and toys within his reach, were four burnt marijuana cigarettes. On a closet shelf in his room were three bongs and two pipes, all with marijuana residue.
In the couples bedroom detectives confiscated 11 pipes/smoking devices, two grinders, four plastic baggies with marijuana; and one plastic baggie with Cocaine. In the living room detectives found a plastic bag with Methamphetamine, a glass pipe with Meth residue, four baggies with Meth residue; a glass pipe and a wooden box with marijuana residue; a burnt marijuana cigarette, and a marijuana plant growing in a pot. Detectives said all items found in the living room were in hands reach of the five year old.
In the kitchen, detectives seized a plastic baggie with 13 grams of marijuana, a burnt marijuana cigarette, a plastic baggie with Methamphetamine, a plastic baggie with Heroin residue, two cut straws, a scale; and a Pyrex pipe and a metal pipe both with marijuana residue. In the lanai by the swimming pool two marijuana plants were growing and confiscated.
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) were called and the child was released to the custody of a grandparent. Laurent and Ray were taken to the Charlotte County Jail and were both charged with Child Neglect, Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana Over 20-Grams, and Possess of Narcotics Paraphernalia. They each posted $16,000 and were released Sunday.
