COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - The National Weather Service predicts that at its most intense point, areas like Marco Island and Everglades City could see storm surge of 5 to 7 feet. Officials stress that residents who choose to stay need to be mindful of water levels, not only as the storm approaches, but also as it exits.

Saturday, workers from various county agencies spent the day at the Emergency Operations Center, testing communications systems, and refining operational plans. Emergency Management Director Dan Summers says Isaac is a tough storm in terms of predicting what may happen. They're concerned about the intensification of the storm.

"Some models have put 5-7 feet of storm surge inundation potential, and I have to stress that as potential, for Collier County," Summers said. "Storm surge is a killer and therefore we want you to stay away from storm surge inundation potentials."

The Collier County Emergency Operations Center will reopen Sunday at 8 a.m. and work around the clock until further notice. The Hurricane Hotline also reopens at 8 a.m. to answer any storm-related questions. That number is 239-252-8444 or 3-1-1 from anywhere in Collier County.
