LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A man has been charged in a second robbery of a taxi cab driver.
Following the August 21st robbery arrest of Ruben Hernandez, a detective noticed many similarities between Hernandez and one of the suspects involved in another robbery of a taxi driver that occurred in July. The physical build, hair style, race, age and facial hair matched the description provided by that victim. In addition, the crime was committed against a taxi driver and involved choking and striking the driver from behind while demanding money. Due to these similarities, a photo lineup was created which contained a picture of Hernandez.
Detectives met with the victim from the July robbery after the arrest of Hernandez. The victim said he remembered what one of the suspects looked like and that he would be able to identify him if he saw him again. The victim positively identified Ruben David Hernandez, Jr., (DOB: 06/09/1980) as the man that beat him, threatened him, and robbed him of his money and car keys on July 28th.
In the July 28th robbery, the victim picked up two male passengers who were waiting in front of a vacant residence at 122 Alabama Road, Lehigh Acres. At approximately 12:35 a.m. the driver was asked to stop at another residence at which time one of the passengers placed the victim in a choke hold from behind while the other passenger struck him multiple times in the face while demanding money and stating he was armed with a gun. The victim nearly lost consciousness and the suspects were able to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash and the car keys from the victim before fleeing on foot
Hernandez has been charged with robbery for the July 28th incident. Detectives are still looking for the second person involved in this robbery
