FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police Department arrested 48-year-old Albert Black Jr.. of Cape Coral. for a sexual assault that happened three months ago. Police arrested Black for burglary with an assault or battery, kidnapping and sexual assault.
On May 1, during the early morning hours Black broke into the female victim’s home located in Central Fort Myers. The victim was sleeping in her bedroom when she was awakened by the suspect. A short struggle ensued, the sexual battery occurred and the suspect fled the scene.
Police processed the crime scene and later released a sketch of the possible suspect. DNA evidence was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.
On July 26, detectives learned the DNA recovered in the case belonged to Black.
“DNA is irrefutable evidence. I am relieved that we caught the suspect and extremely proud of the investigative work by everyone involved,” said Chief Doug Baker.
Black was on probation for a similar crime. He was released from prison in 2010.
Black was taken into custody without incident.
