LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A North Fort Myers man is in custody this morning in connection with three robberies thanks to the vigilance and assistance of the "eyes and ears" of citizens and the nose of a Sheriff's Office K9 last evening. The case began to unfold shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, after a call to the Lee County Sheriff's Office reported the robbery of a cashier at the Beall's Outlet located at 15201 North Cleveland Avenue, North Fort Myers, Florida. Deputies arrived on scene and began speaking with the victim and witnesses.

Due to the nature of the incident, Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Robbery Unit were assigned to continue the investigation. They've learned the suspect, 47 year old Gary D. Davis of 141 W. Marianna Avenue, North Fort Myers, entered the retail store and was purchasing a wallet. The cashier opened the register when Davis reached over and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the drawer. The commotion got the attention of patrons who gave chase as the robber ran out of the door on the south side of the store. A female witness attempted to intervene and got in a physical struggle with Davis. She was transported to a local hospital, treated and released with a bruise to her chest.

The suspect was seen entering a white, four-door vehicle and leaving the scene. Another witness followed the suspect vehicle to the area of W. Marianna Avenue and met with deputies. He identified the car as a white, Dodge Intrepid and one was located abandoned. A Sheriff's Office K9 deputy arrived on scene. The deputy deployed K9 Bala which led to the doorway of 141 W. Marianna Avenue.

While talking with a resident at the home, Gary Davis walked out of a rear bedroom, put his hands in the air and agreed to be questioned surrounding the recent events. Meanwhile, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and obtained a description of the suspect, which Davis matched. A search warrant was obtained for his residence and evidence linking him to the Beall's Outlet robbery, as well as two other recent robberies of the Dollar Store, 1890 North Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers on June 24th and July 15th, found. He has been charged with three counts of robbery without a weapon and booked into the Lee County Jail. An inmate photo and additional information is available on the Sheriff's Office website at www.sheriffleefl.org under the Crime Activity tab / Inmate Search.
