NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- Bala is the K-9 dog who helped nab 47-year-old, Gary Davis. Bala's trainer said she was just doing what she was taught to do.

LCSO Sgt. Frank Glover said "When a person walks or flees and goes from point A to B they leave a trail of odor particles that's what the dogs follow."

Bala's keen sense of smell kicked in shortly after 6 o'clock Tuesday night. Lee County Sheriff's Deputies said Davis grabbed cash from a register at Beall's outlet on North Cleveland Avenue. Shoppers chased the robber, but he took off in his getaway car. A witness followed the suspect for four miles to West Marianna Avenue then Bala led authorities right to the suspect's front door. People nearby watched everything unfold.

Authorities said Davis put his hands in the air and agreed to be questioned about the robberies. Glover said, "Every time they can get from where the person left to where they ended and locate the suspect it is a big plus."

In the end, detectives linked Davis to the Beall's outlet robbery, as well as robberies June 24th and July 15th at the Dollar Store on North Tamiami Trail.
