BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Royal Scoop Homemade Ice Cream celebrated National Ice Cream Day today, with a bunch of activities for ice cream lovers.

The ice cream shop is giving free ice cream to the first 100 customers at both the Bonita Springs and Naples locations, beginning at noon.

It is also hosting an ice cream eating contest called 'brain freeze,' to see who can eat a quart of ice cream the fastest.

Customers can also enter a drawing to win free Royal Scoop ice cream for a year.

Other events include a blood drive, and a kids' pledge challenge, to earn free ice cream.

Royal Scoop co-owner Dave Zimmermann says National Ice Cream Day falls on the third Sunday in July each year, and is like Christmas for the ice cream industry.
