LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - Speed may have caused a man to lose control of his car and crash into a Lehigh Acres home.
Florida Highway Patrol says 30-year old Jaime Giron Cardona, a Lehigh resident, was going fast down Parkdale Boulevard, when he vaulted off the road, became airborne and crashed into the home.
"I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe he missed that telephone pole. He came right down through here, missed all the big stuff and hit the house," said neighbor Lou Willard.
Debris still litters the ground where just before 5am this morning, Cardona lost control of his BMW and crashed into the house on Creuset Avenue.
"Just from the impact that you have seen and the debris on the road and the travel marks from the vehicle you can determine speed was a factor," stated Sgt. William Harris.
Cardona was pronounced dead at Lehigh Regional Medical Center. No one was living in the home when the crash occurred. The elderly couple who had lived there recently moved away. It's still not clear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
