COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - New, higher toll rates began Sunday on many of Florida's major toll highways, including Alligator Alley.
The new rates increase the cost of driving on Alligator Alley from $2.50 to $3.00 for cash customers. SunPass users will see a 75 cent increase, from $2.00 to $2.75.
The Florida Department of Transportation said SunPass customers have not had a rate increase since the program started in 1999.
Tolls will also increase on other highways, including Florida's Turnpike.
Lee County's toll bridges in Cape Coral and Sanibel are not part of the state DOT toll road system and will not be affected by the increase.
