LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The suspect allegedly responsible for a string of violent crimes in the last nine days has been arrested and identified as 29-year-old Antonio Thomas.
A press conference held by the Lee County Sheriff's Office detailed that Thomas was taken into custody today, after terrorizing the community for more than a week.
The rash of violent crimes in three jurisdictions started with an attempted carjacking at 7-11 in North Fort Myers on June 13th. There was is a robbery, in which the victim followed the attacker and got away.
On June 15th, a victim was abducted from a pawn store on Tamiami Trail and driven to Cape Coral. The victim jumped out of the car was found in Fort Myers.
On June 20th, a female was found in the AutoZone parking lot. She was raped, murdered and discarded.
On Friday morning, a Fort Myers victim was beaten, stabbed and had her vehicle stolen during a home invasion.
The same individual then kidnapped a 15-year-old girl on Glenwood Ave. and put her in the trunk of the stolen vehicle, but she was able to free herself.
LCSO says this was random and serial in nature.
Thomas has a lengthy record involving drugs, though none of it has been violent.
The investigation is ongoing.
