ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – The prosecutor who gained national attention as a key player in the unsuccessful case against Casey Anthony says he committed no crime on the cheating website, Ashley Madison, and will not resign his post.

Jeff Ashton, the State Attorney for Orange and Osceola counties in central Florida, said Sunday that he signed up for the site because he was curious but he did not have an affair. He asked for forgiveness for his bad judgment.

Ashton called a news conference after reports claimed he was a paid member of Ashley Madison, whose client data was targeted by hackers.

The veteran prosecutor was at the center of the case against Anthony, who was acquitted in 2011 of the murder of her 2-year-old daughter three years earlier.
