COLLIER COUNTY, Fla - Collier County firefighters swarmed the scene of a brush fire, burning dangerously close to two homes off Everglades Boulevard on Thursday night.

The 11-acre fire is now 100 percent contained.

Firefighters say it started with just a couple of trees on fire, but heavy, dry brush and strong winds allowed it to spread quickly.

Captain Eric Watson of Big Corkscrew Fire Rescue says, "With the drought conditions pushing 700, it doesn't take much. Until we get some rain to put a damper on things, its going to be like this for quite some time through the brush season."

The official cause of the fire is under investigation, but crews believe it was started by a lit cigarette.
