COLLIER COUNTY, FL - Collier county sheriff's investigators say Alex Crain ambushed and shot both of his parents in their home. He was 14. In court, now 15, Crain plead no contest to their murder. The deal according to Crain's attorneys, was put together by the prosecution and defense. Both sides say there was no sense in taking this case to trial. For the teen's no contest plea, Crain was sentenced to 20 years in state prison. That is a far cry from the 60 years he could have faced had the case gone before a jury. Still, throughout the year and a half since the murders, a motive for the killings has never surfaced publicly. Crain's attorney, Brian Bieber, says the teen has had mental evaluations and it is believed that he would never re-offend. "Sometimes people do snap for a reason", Beiber said after the hearing. That "reason" remains a mystery.
