COLLIER COUNTY, Fla -- A construction worker is in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital after falling more than 20 feet off a building.

The accident happened around 8:30 Friday morning just off Shaw Blvd in Golden Gate.

Kenneth Opliger has worked as a construction worker his whole life, without ever having a serious accodent, but Friday morning the 47-year-old had a terrifying fall from a building in Golden Gate.

Stacy Klein, Opliger's step- daughter says, "I'm scared, I'm just praying for him that he'll make it through it. That's my main concern. He's in ICU right now, so it's scary."

The incident report says Kenneth was welding about 25 feet off the ground when he lost his balance and fell directly onto the concrete.

Klein says, "he's suffering from multiple broken bones, one being a skull fracture. There is no internal bleeding or swelling, but he's going to have to have a lot of surgery so, were just praying."

Opliger was welding on the side of the building by himself. No one saw what happened but just heard him fall to the ground.

Collier County Sheriffs Deputies say Opliger was bleeding from the head when EMS arrived.

Opliger's wife Kate says, "all we know is just that he slipped. No one really knows what happened other than Kenneth and we haven't been able to speak to him because he's been under since they brought him in."

Opliger will have a long recovery ahead of him. His family, is just praying he will one day get back to doing what he loves.

Kate says, "He's just a real good hearted man. He'd give you the shirt off his back."
