PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A downtown Punta Gorda pub got an uninvited patron after hours. Deputies arrested James Shannon, after they say he broke into the Celtic Ray and helped himself to beer and cigarettes.

Surveillance footage shows the 48-year old climbing into the Celtic Ray by working his way through a window. He's seen making himself right at home into the recently-reopened restaurant.
"It was a big shock. Big shock. That's never happened before!" Celtic Ray owner Kevin Doyle said.

Shannon is caught on camera rummaging through restaurant equipment until he eventually found what he was looking for: a glass, used to pour a perfect pint of Guinness. Even owner Kevin Doyle gives him a nod.

"He poured it well, he poured it properly," he said.

Deputies say aside from the brew, he stole $70 worth of the bar's inventory.

"He went off with a carton of cigarettes, pockets full of quarters, the six pack and then of course the pint he consumed," Doyle said.

Shannon didn't get too far from the scene. He was later hit by a car, just blocks away.

Shannon was treated at Charlotte Regional Medical Center and later transported to the Charlotte County Jail. Deputies believe Shannon is homeless. He faces petit theft and burglary charges.
