FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers Police were working a death investigation behind the Hobby Lobby on Six Mile Cypress in Fort Myers on Monday morning.

Police received a tip at approximately 2:45 a.m. and found a man dead in a field behind the Hobby Lobby shopping center.

They say the area is a known transient camp, that appeared to be home to several people.

The Fort Myers Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement gathered evidence for several hours before the coroner's office arrived to remove the body and perform its own investigation.

The cause of death is still unknown.

The case is being treated as a criminal investigation, though detectives said there were no obvious signs that a crime had been committed.

A name has not yet been released, but the body has been identified. Information will be released after the individual's family has been notified.
