ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Police in St. Petersburg say they have arrested a man who they believe abducted a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint and raped her.
Police reported that 32-year-old Benjamin Devoe Mohead stopped his car and forced the girl in at gunpoint while she was walking to school Thursday morning. Then, they say, Mohead - whom she did not know - drove her to a nearby golf course and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect let the girl out of the car after she started screaming. She got the tag number of the car, which police traced to an apartment complex. Mohead, who has a lengthy criminal record, was arrested later Thursday morning.
He was being booked into the jail, and it wasn't clear if he had an attorney yet.
