COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The head of a national anti-drug group says legalizing marijuana in Florida would be a mistake.

For the first time, amendments allowing medical marijuana have been filed in both the Florida House and Senate.

Speaking at a Drug Free Collier luncheon, Calvina Faye of Drug Free America said marijuana would likely mirror Florida's prescription drug problem.

"Some of those same unscrupulous doctors and business people that have opened these pain clinics and pedaled enormous amounts of prescription drugs out on the streets would be pedaling marijuana with the guise of medicine," Fay said.

Fay said legalizing marijuana would drive up drug use because of increased availability, and a change in people's perceptions.
