NAPLES, Fla.- WINK News is hearing first-hand from the former landlord of an alleged terrorist. Amine El Khalifi is expected in a Federal Court tomorrow. He's accused of trying to detonate a suicide bomb inside the U.S. Capitol.
Frank Dynda was suspicious from the start.
"He was really sinister looking and mission-oriented," Dynda said Tuesday.
The Arlington County, Viriginia landlord says he was instantly weary of a new tenant, Amine El Khalifi, after he quietly moved into his girlfriend's apartment in 2010.
"When I asked him, you're really not on the lease, you need to sign or leave, and he wouldn't," Dynda said.
Dynda asked for more information...a request he says was denied.
"He wouldn't fill out an application! So he didn't give out any information except his name," Dynda said.
Dynda says El Khalifi didn't appear to have a regular job, but did list the apartment as a luggage business.
"I never saw any luggage, just tons of books came to him and things that felt heavier than books to me. At one point I thought it might be cement. But lord knows what it was," Dynda said.
After about six months, Dynda says the girlfriend moved out, but El Khalifi stayed put. When rent checks stopped coming, he evicted the Moroccan-native. Dynda says El Khalifi became violent, so he tipped off authorities about the man's behavior.
"I did tell them, I think he's making bombs in there," Dynda said Thursday.
Fast forward two years, and the former tenant is now under arrest, accused of plotting a suicide attack inside the U.S. Capitol building.
FBI Agents arrested El Khalifi inside a Washington, D.C. parking garage on Friday... just miles away from his old apartment.
"We shouldn't really be paranoid but we should be aware of our surroundings and you see something out of the ordinary, report it," Dynda said.
Amine El Khalifi is expected back in Federal Court on Wednesday for a scheduled bond hearing.
