NASA Celebrates 50 Years in Orbit

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The first American to orbit Earth will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his space flight today at NASA events in Cape Canaveral. John Glenn's first journey was on February 20, 1962. Glenn was the first American to orbit Earth, and was also named the "Oldest Person to Fly in Space" at the age of 77 during his journey aboard shuttle "Discovery" in 1998. At 90 years old, the only other accomplishment Glenn wishes he had done was to be on Apollo 11; The 1969 mission when man first stepped onto the moon.
