PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Port Charlotte man on two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse, one count each of Child Abuse, and Domestic Battery, stemming from an incident at his home Thursday.
Deputies were dispatched on a domestic disturbance at 7:25 p.m. to 22379 Catherine Avenue. Neighbors and witnesses in the home reported Jason Brandon Daugherty, 30, had been drinking and fell asleep. He woke up and began yelling for everyone to get out of his house. Daugherty threw a glass ice cream bowl that shattered on the floor. He grabbed a six year boy by the neck and threw the boy on the floor into the broken glass; deputies observed cuts on the boys hand.
Daugherty continued to yell at everyone in the home. A 12-year-old girl fled the house and the disturbance moved outside. Daugherty then grabbed his wife and pushed her over a bicycle causing her to fall. He then grabbed a 9-year-old boy by the back of his neck and pushed him over a pile of sharp rocks. Upon arrival, deputies gained control of the situation and after getting statements and observing injuries, arrested Daugherty.
Daugherty was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond.
