CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - In preparation of cold weather on Sunday night, Charlotte County's Office of Emergency Management has announced the opening of three Cold Weather shelters.
The Charlotte County Office of Emergency Management expects temperatures ranging from 30 to 35 degrees, Sunday night, with inland temperatures drop below freezing. Wind chill temperatures will range in the upper 20s. Patchy frost is expected overnight.
The Port Charlotte Cold Weather Shelter is located at the Living Waters Lutheran Church, located at 12475 Chancellor Blvd. Port Charlotte. Resident’s needing shelter can expect the shelter to open on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. The shelter provides a warm place to sleep for the night and limited nutrition.
There is also limited availability at the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition located at 1476 Kenesaw Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. The Homeless Coalition will accept people until their capacity is reached.
The Englewood shelter is also available which is provided by the American Red Cross, in cooperation with Just Neighbors of Englewood and St David’s Episcopal Church. This Englewood shelter is located at St David’s Episcopal Church, 401 South Broadway, Englewood, FL 34223. This shelter is open at 6:00 p.m.
