TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The state Senate's health budget proposal will increase funding to hire more child welfare investigators and boost programs for people with developmental disabilities.
    
Sen. Joe Negron's $30 billion proposal is an increase from this year's budget and includes state and federal money.
    
The Department of Children and Families would get nearly $10 million to increase salaries and help improve the high turnover rate of child protective investigators. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities would also get a boost of more than $75 million for their community-based waiver program which helps about 30,000 people a year.
    
But the Senate proposal also includes deep cuts for adult substance abuse and mental health programs.
    
The Senate Health and Human Services Appropriation is set to continue discussions Thursday.
