LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate a deadly accident on San Carlos Boulevard in Fort Myers. An 87-year-old woman was killed as she crossed the street Tuesday night.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Margorie Grayson was trying to cross a busy street when she was hit by a car. She was hit by a Corvette at the intersection of San Carlos Boulevard and Beach Walk Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation, by F.H.P. indicates Grayson stepped out on to the street and into on coming traffic around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Grayson was in Fort Myers visiting family and friends.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries. No charges will be filed.
Though it is being called a tragic accident, many in the area are not surprised. There are no cross walks at the intersection. Cars drive too fast and there are no sidewalks.
Grayson is the second person killed this week by a car. Earlier, a 17-year-old girl was killed in Estero while crossing the street. Law enforcement is urging both drivers and pedestrians to be extra cautious during season to avoid accidents like these.
