LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A tropical disturbance passing through the Florida Straits is not likely to develop into a tropical or subtropical system. A broad area of low pressure is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms from Cuba to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.
This system will likely produce widespread rainfall and isolated gusty winds to Cuba, the Florida Keys and South Florida. The heaviest rain will fall on the east coast from Fort Lauderdale to Key Largo.
Only one tropical storm has ever been recorded in the Atlantic Basin during the month of February. The Tropical Storm developed quickly on February 2nd, 1952 in the western Caribbean and made landfall near Cape Sable, Florida. The tropical storm produced winds up to 68 mph in Miami.
