PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes detectives are investigating a medical call Sunday evening in Port Charlotte of a 22-month old girl who was unresponsive, not breathing and had turned blue.
Deputies responded at 6:39 p.m. to the 11700 block of Edgewater Drive and immediately began CPR on the child. Charlotte County Fire/EMS arrived and took over life support for the child. EMS transported her to Peace River Regional Medical Center where she regained consciousness. She was stabilized and then transported to All Children’s Hospital in Tampa. EMS credited the deputies with saving the child’s life by doing immediate CPR.
Detectives report it appears the child may have accidently ingested a prescription pill found in the home. The Department of Children and Families and MCU detectives continue their investigations.
