CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral's City Council will have a very important vote Monday on two major contracts. The city's police and fire unions have both ratified their contracts. Now leaders will vote to approve them.
The police and firefighters union have been negotiating with the city for two years. There have been very public ups and downs in the fight and now this epic battle may be coming to an end.
Cape Coral's police union ratified its contract last month. Firefighters approved thier contract last week.
The terms are a two percent cut in pay for both and a three percent boost for the rank and file to pay into their own retirement. Those numbers are very close to what had been offered up at the beginning of negotiations nearly two years ago. But with new members of City Council on board, agreeing at the bargaining table was a little easier.
