NAPLES, Fla.- Naples Police are trying to find those responsible for swiping $100,000 worth of designer glasses this week.
Naples Optical, located on U.S. 41, was ransacked Tuesday night.
Shelves of high end glasses were completely wiped out.
"We have a lot of name brands. We carry things like Chanel and Fendi and Gucci that are very well known and obviously you become a target for people who want to sell those brands on the black market," store manager Rick Rudinz said.
Rudinz said the store was hit during this time two years ago. Since then, they've installed an alarm and surveillance system.
According to reports, the alarm system was disabled.
"This tends to be a circle where they hit us at certain times and it's not just us, it's other opticals in the area that have been hit over the years so we were aware that this is a possiblity," Rudinz said.
The incident report, filed by Naples Police, states a man who lives behind the store reported the crime Wednesday morning.
The neighbor was taking a walk when he saw the back door of the store was left wide open. From the street, the man saw eyeglass cases and displays all over the floor.
"Pretty heartbreaking. We're a family-owned business. It's a small business. We're ready to celebrate 30 years of being in business and this is not the way to celebrate," Rudinz said.
Rudinz says the thieves tried to steal an eyeglass lens edger, worth about $60,000 from the back work station.
Naples Police tell WINK News they are reviewing store surveillance footage to try to identify the crooks.
If you know anything that might help police in their search, they want to hear from you.
