ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Amazing imagines of a Coast Guard rescue just west of Stump Pass in Charlotte County.  Two men, stranded, waving for help while clinging to their submerged boat.

It's a story of survival.  Neighbors Bill Handy and Michael Kasak laugh now but 24 hours ago they weren't sure if they'd ever laugh again.

"It was pretty dramatic when it rolled over.  We had no time.  We're both disabled and I'm diabetic," said Handy.

Tuesday, the two Englewood men wanted to take advantage of the last day of Grouper season.  They wanted to catch the big one to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday.  That's when the boat they were in, started taking on water.

"It was within seconds.  Two, three seconds.  It was beyond my belief," said Kasak.

The boat took on so much water it eventually flipped.  In the process, it caught Handy's life jacket and pulled him under water.

"We had put our life preservers on and something on the boat caught me.  It flipped towards me," said Handy.

"I had no breath.  The water was so cold.  The second that the boat flipped, when I hit the water, the shock from the cold water took my breath away," said Handy.

Finally the men were able to get on top of the sinking ship and wait for help.

"We had waves that were washing over the boat and it was extremely hard to perch on the v-haul boat and stay sitting there," said Handy.

The Coast Guard happened to be passing in the area on their way north.  The watch commander spotted the two men who say a level head and a calm attitude saved their lives.

"We were talking  about taking up shuffleboard," said Handy.

The two men say they don't plan to stay on dry ground.  As soon as they get a new boat, they'll be back on the water.
