ESTERO, Fla -- A 17 year old girl has died following an accident on US 41 in Estero. Lee County officials tell WINK News the teen was walking across US 41 at the intersection of Sweetwater Ranch Blvd when she was struck by a vehicle.

The accident happened at 7:31 p.m. Two northbound lanes of US 41 were closed for more than two hours while investigators worked the scene. Officials cleared the scene and opened all lanes of traffic just after 10 p.m.

The teen was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but later died of injuries sustained in the crash.
