The "special districts bill," making its way through the Florida Senate, is getting a lot of attention in Collier County.
A budget subcommittee unanimously approved the bill Wednesday.
If passed, it would allow Collier County's five fire districts to merge without a special act of the legislature.
Instead, voters could decide on a merger.
Some groups in Collier County say consolidating the districts would save money.
