ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested an Englewood East man after finding multiple narcotics on him after he eluded them from a speeding violation and drove home. John Anthony Porter, 26, of 7180 Eldridge Street, tried to take safe haven in his yard telling deputies to get off his property and they couldn’t do anything to him on his property.
Porter was advised by the deputy that he saw him speeding on S.R. 776 near Strawberry Street and tried to stop him but he ignored them and continued to drive to his home. Porter got out of the car and walked toward the house. Deputies explained the violations and he then provided a driver’s license but refused to provide insurance or registration. Backup was requested because Porter was very uncooperative. Porter then said he would look for the documents in his car and was observed placing his hands in his pockets and turned his body away from deputies. He was directed several times to take his hands out of his pockets and asked three times if he had a weapon; he replied he didn’t know.
Backup deputies arrived and Porter was instructed to place his hands on the rear of his car. He again tried to reach into his pockets. As a deputy tried to frisk him for weapons, he pulled away and attempted to run but was taken to the ground and kicked a deputy in the hip and arm. He pulled away again, kept kicking and was finally subdued after the use of a Taser.
Once in handcuffs, he was searched and deputies found four small plastic baggies with different pills. The pills were identified as Oxycodone, Alprazolam and Duprenorphine. Another deputy saw Porter drop a small tin can onto the ground that contained Crack Cocaine. Six homemade capsules were also located in Porter’s pocket and were sent to FDLE for identification.
Porter was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and charged with Possession of Oxycodone, Alprazolam, Duprenorphine and Crack Cocaine, plus Resisting an Officer with Violence. This is Porter’s 27th booking with 43 records. He is also a convicted felon.
Anyone with knowledge of illegal drug activity is asked to please call the CCSO Narcotics Unit at 941-575-2157, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
