PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff Major Crimes detectives reports that Herbert Earl ”Dooney” Battle Jr., 39, formerly of North Port, was returned to Charlotte County Tuesday afternoon in connection with a Nov. 20 drive-by car shooting in Port Charlotte.
Battle was arrested by U.S. Marshal Agents in Miami Jan. 26 acting on information provided by the CCSO Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Battle is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder. Ashanti Donnell Roundtree, 35, of Oscar Terrace in North Port, was arrested Nov. 28 on the same charges. Both remain in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond.
Battle fled to the Miami area following the shooting incident. He and Roundtree followed the victim’s car after leaving Boomers night club after an argument inside. Eight bullets hit the car; three of the four inside were shot around 1:30 a.m. Two were treated and released while the driver, Kameka Latish Akins, 22, of Arcadia, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with a very serious neck injury. She has since been released and undergoing physical therapy.
