CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit detectives continue their “Doctor Shopping” investigations and made their ninth arrest in two weeks. Detectives arrested Steve Ellis Gillikin, 58, of 1203 Saxony Circle in Deep Creek on six charges Monday.
Detectives arrested Gillikin in the parking lot of a convenience store at 330 Kings Highway in Charlotte Harbor at 5 p.m. on unrelated narcotics charges. Gillikin gave consent to search his 2009 Lincoln Town Car and detectives located several pill bottles in the trunk that included Roxicodne and Methadone pills. Gillikin was arrested for Possession of Methadone, Possession of Roxicodone, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Gillikin was additionally charged for his involvement in an ongoing Doctor Shopping fraud investigation as he was seeing several doctors in Charlotte County and getting prescription medications dating back to mid-2010. He failed to notify his doctors that he was receiving medications from other physicians for an ailment. He received prescription for Oxycodone and Morphine Sulfate that he had been filling at three different Port Charlotte pharmacies.
Gillikin was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he was charged with three counts of felony Withholding Information from a Practitioner. He posted a $13,500 bond and was released. Narcotics detectives continue investigating other doctor shopping fraud cases.
