CHARLOTTE HARBOR, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is investigating vandalism to the Charlotte Harbor Cemetery, located at 4410 Church Street in Charlotte Harbor. Officers responded to the call Friday morning on reports that vandals entered the Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery sometime during the night and damaged 77 three foot tall white wooden crosses. The crosses were removed and replaced upside down. Two metal memorial markers were also damaged beyond repair.

Deputies reported the cemetery is fenced in and gated, but has been left open and unlocked as a convenience for mourners. Pastor Marion Sortore said she is considering revising this policy.

If anyone has information about this cemetery vandalism case, please call CCSO Deputy First Class K. Ayers at 941-639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
