FORT MYERS, Fla.- Police are investigating an overnight shooting death in a Fort Myers neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 1:30 am Friday on Henderson Ave. near Ellington Court, just north of Edison Ave.

Upon arrival officers located a male victim who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Police spent the early morning hours canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses.

Details on the victim's identity have not yet been released.

Neighbors gathered Friday morning to see what was going on. Fort Myers Councilman Johnny Streets stopped by the crime scene as well. The shooting happened in the ward he represents.

Police do not yet have a suspect.

"We are interviewing witnesses and trying to develop suspect information," said Sgt. Peter Tarman with FMPD.  "It is time consuming, so hopefully we get all the pieces together and get someone in custody soon."

The shooting happened across the street from Franklin Park Magnet School. The building supervisor asked police if the investigation would affect the school day, but officers say the school should be able to open as scheduled.
