LAKE HELEN, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a man was struck and killed on Interstate 4 as he tried to help a motorist who had run out of gas.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes says the man had stopped to help 23-year-old Tiffany Walters about 4:20 a.m. Thursday. Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
Montes says he was standing beside Walters' SUV when another vehicle drifted onto the shoulder and struck the vehicle and the man. The car was driven by 32-year-old Glen Ross II.
The crash remains under investigation. Montes says it is unclear why Ross drifted onto the shoulder of the road.
Charges are pending. Lake Helen is southwest of Daytona Beach.
