LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Court proceedings are under way in the trial against Dylan Wisniewski. He's the Cape Coral teen accused of killing his 15-year-old girlfriend, Ashlee Swayze. Tuesday is the first day of trial in this case.
The prosecution is in the process of questioning the 40 potential jurors brought in for this case. When they're finished, the defense will begin their questioning. The goal was to have a jury chosen by lunch, but Judge John Dommerich said that it may spill over until the afternoon.
Dylan Wisniewski has pled not guilty to the manslaughter charge he's facing. Just last month his attorney attempted to get the case thrown out. Saying he didn't know the gun was loaded when he aimed it at his girlfriend and pulled the trigger on September 3 in his Cape Coral home.
He has been out of jail and under house arrest for about a year. He arrived in court Tuesday morning dressed in a suit with his family and grandparents by his side.
This trial is expected to last about three days. If convicted, the 19-year-old faces up to 30 years in prison.
