NAPLES, Fla -- An Ave Maria School of Law student is behind bars being held on a million dollar bond. Robert Ringley, 25, is accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Ringley, 25, is accused of holding his ex-girlfriend and his roommate at gunpoint. The two say they were forced to kneel on the ground with a gun pointed at their heads and feared they were going to be executed.

Classmates say they never expected this from Ringley. Ben Donovan, Student Bar Association President, describes Ringle as an outgoing and carefree person. He says everyone on campus is shocked to learn of the charges against their classmate.

The Ave Maria School of Law dean notified students of the incident through email Friday morning.

Donovan says, "there's been a lot of shock and it's been difficult to process the information we've been given."

According to Collier County deputies Robert Ringley invited his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Morris, over to talk about their relationship late Thursday night.

When Samantha insisted their relationship was over, the situation quickly escalated. After taking several shots of Scotch, Robert pulled out a handgun. The arrest report says he begged Samantha telling her, "just tell me you love me. I love you."

Robert's roommate, Chris Graves, tried to calm his friend down, with no luck. According to the arrest report Ringley ordered both of them to the ground and pointed the loaded gun right at the pair.

Samantha was able to run inside, but Robert fired several shots in the air, including right at Graves. He told deputies, "I saw the big flash of the muzzle and I heard the bullet wiz by me.

Donovan says he knew all three involved in the incident and says there were no signs Robert had any issues.

"Personally through my interactions with Rob, I didn't see anything and I don't think the student body saw anything that would indicate any behavior like this," Donovan said.

John Knowles, Director of Development and External Affairs for Ave Maria School of Law released the following statement following the incident:

"Ave Maria School of Law takes seriously our obligations under the Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) to protect the privacy of all our students, and therefore is limited in her ability to comment on this matter.

What we are able to confirm is that an incident that is still being investigated by the police  occurred early Friday morning away from the law school's campus and that the three individuals involved are students at the law school.  We are also able to confirm that the law school does have a policy for handling situations where a student has been arrested and charged with a crime, and that this internal process is underway.  We can also confirm that early Friday Mr. Ringley was arrested by the police, and that he remains in custody at this time.

Beyond that, our focus is on Ms. Morris and Mr. Graves, making sure they have all the support available as they recover from the events of Friday morning.  Their personal/academic needs and their ability to move on quickly from this incident are paramount as we progress through this episode."

Ringley is accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault. He remains behind bars at the Collier County jail on a $1 million bond.
