MIAMI (AP) - Miami-Dade police say an undercover officer shot and killed a dog while he was conducting a narcotics investigation at a home.
The Miami Herald ( ) reports the department released a photo of the officer's leg, which showed a bite mark below the knee. The incident happened Wednesday.
The officer was taken to a hospital where he received about 20 anti-body shots to protect him from rabies. Police say the officer will require two follow-up visits to monitor for infection.
Police say they received permission to enter the gated property to search it. They say a large dog charged at the officers and bit one in the leg. The officer then shot and killed the dog.
The newspaper reports the homeowner and others were taken into custody to face drug charges.
