TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Department of Corrections is closing seven prisons and four work camps.
Corrections officials said Thursday no inmates will be released early as a result of the agency's consolidation plan.
Department Secretary Ken Tucker says declining prison admissions has led to a surplus of prison beds.
Inmates at the prisons and camps slated for closure will be relocated to other facilities.
Those prisons closing include Broward Correctional Institution, Demilly Correctional Institution, Gainesville Correctional Institution Hillsborough Correctional Institution, Indian River Correctional Institution, Jefferson Correctional Institution and New River Correctional Institution.
