FORT MYERS, Fla-- Many southwest Floridians are joining others across the country, making that New Year's resolution to join a gym.

A trainer with Gold's Gym in Fort Myers tells WINK News that memberships always increase with the beginning of the new year. He says many people are making the resolution to get and stay fit.

"Since it's the first of the year, there is a lot more people here than there has usually been in late December. After the holidays, people are eating a lot, tend to binge. It's a good idea to start the first of the year, into a good fitness program," said trainer Ray O'Kelly.

He says if you just joined a gym, it's advised you start out slow with some cardio for a few weeks. Then, you can start with some weights.
