FORT MYERS, Fla - A burst of cold weather will be felt around Southwest Florida this week and farmers in the area are already preparing.

Mike Greenwell at 31 Produce is expecting the worst of the cold temperatures on Tuesday night, and he's already getting ready for it.

"We'll start putting some moisture in the ground. That's the first thing we'll do.  We started that actually yesterday. We'll start putting our wire hoops. and then we'll start putting the crop cover on and getting it tied down."

Most farmers are happy the cold weather has held off so long this year.  In December of 2010, there were 8 days with temperatures in the 30's in Fort Myers.  At 31 Produce they lost $25,000 worth of produce.

"It's definitely tough when you lose 50% of your crop, but you just keep going and keep planting. It's just what you do."
