PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives and the State Fire Marshal are investigating an arson fire to an abandoned home in South Punta Gorda Heights. CCSO received the fire call at 8:27 p.m. Tuesday to the house trailer at 15500 Lime Drive.

CCSO deputies and Charlotte County Fire responded to the fully engulfed fire. Residents in a neighboring home were evacuated while CCFD extinguished the fire. The State Fire Marshal was notified and met with CCSO detectives at the fire scene. The fire was determined by the Fire Marshal as being a case of arson.

The fire started in the porch area of the trailer and a white male wearing all black was seen running from the trailer just prior to the flames. No occupants were inside and it was a known vacant trailer. The Fire Marshall advised this was not related to the arson fires at the Peace River Fish Camp off U.S. 17 last November, saying “it was a different setting and modus operandi.” The Fire Marshal placed an Arson Reward sign on the trailer.

If anyone has information concerning this arson case, please call CCSO detectives at 941-639-2101; the State Fire Marshal Arson Tip Line at 877-662-7766; or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
