FORT MYERS, Fla. -- On Friday, shots rang out at the Edison Mall in Fort Myers on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.  It ended with one man dead.  The man killed, Thomas Goodman, WINK News has learned, was in and out of jail the last few weeks.

Goodman was arrested in November after Fort Myers police issued an arrest warrant for him.  Officers said two other men told them, Goodman fired shots at their car in June.  Officers are remaining tight lipped but a look into Goodman's past shows trouble.

Less than a week after Thomas Goodman, 25, was killed outside the Edison Mall in Fort Myers, officers are remaining quiet, telling WINK News it is an ongoing and active investigation.  Back in June, an arrest warrant was issued for Goodman.  It said he was the driver of a car involved in a shooting.  Several men were in the car just before 3 a.m. when shots were fired off Colonial and Fowler.

The two men who reported the shooting in June are Gervaris Leaphart and his cousin Anthony Graham.  Leaphart told investigators that "there were no previous altercations or any problems that evening involving any of the individuals in that vehicle."

The two men who reported the June shooting do have criminal backgrounds.  Graham has drug possession of heroin from 2007.  Leaphart doesn't have much of a record, just a moving traffic violation from 2009.

Goodman was charged with aggravated assault, firing a weapon into a vehicle and possession of a weapon by a felon in connection to the June shooting.  He was released on bond November 28.

Officers said Friday night's shooting happened outside the Edison Mall and Goodman died from multiple gunshot wounds.

"My experience of doing this job, there was an assault rifle for sure.  Multiple shots, well over 50.  I probably have 50, 60, there is four or five rows of shell casings," said Sgt. Jay Rodriguez, Fort Myers Police Department.

No suspects have been named, no one has been arrested.  Officers said they believe the shots fired came from one car.

The Fort Myers Police Department said they're looking for a gray, Ford Ranger, that was seen leaving the mall shortly have the shooting with several males inside.
