PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the theft of a semi-tractor and trailer Friday carrying $40,000 worth of dairy products from a Punta Gorda truck stop off I-75/Exit 161. The driver told deputies he left his tractor and trailer in a rear parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center, 26505 Jones Loop Road, on Friday (Dec. 23). He returned Saturday and reported them stolen at 4:04 p.m.

Deputies made contact with Top Trucking Corporation owners of the tractor and trailer. Company officials told deputies the GPS on the tractor showed it leaving Punta Gorda at 6:04 p.m. Friday and gave them an address in Miami where they were located. CCSO contacted Miami Police and gave them the GPS location; police located the stolen tractor and trailer, minus the dairy cargo.

The tractor was a red 2001 Freightliner valued at $60,000; the 2005 Guardian refrigerator box trailer was valued at $20,000. If anyone has information about seeing the tractor and trailer being stolen Friday, please call the CCSO at 941-639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
