CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) - A Cape Coral man accused of killing his grandfather has been charged with second degree murder.
The state attorney's office filed the charge Monday against 23-year-old Garrett Kern. He's also charged with theft of a motor vehicle for allegedly taking his grandfather's car.
James Arthur was last seen on Oct. 27 leaving a probation appointment with Kern.
The Fort Myers News Press reports that the arrest warrant says Kern told a friend he choked the 80-year-old Arthur in his car. The body was found dumped in a wooded area. Kern then fled to Chicago, where he was arrested after a nationwide search.
Kern's being held in the Lee County Jail. His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 19.
