MIAMI (AP) - Dominican Republic authorities have detained an American sex offender who failed to show up for a Miami court hearing.
The U.S. Marshals' service in Miami said Tuesday Jason Harvey was detained late Sunday night in Santa Domingo.
Dominican National Drug Control officials said Harvey will be returned to the U.S. after the proper immigration procedures are completed. The 40-year-old was convicted of cocaine possession and bomb threats in Miami in 2008. He was required to check in with Miami authorities due to a sexual assault conviction in Atlantic City New Jersey. A felony warrant was issued for him in 2009 after he didn't show.
Dominican authorities say he entered their country in 2006. It was not clear when he left the U.S. He does not currently have a public defender.
